Former Dunlap Eagle Sophia Remmel hit the transfer portal after one year at Morton College. She announced her decision today. I got to talk to her about her commitment.
At Morton College, she averaged 12.5 points per game, 3.8 rebounds, and 3 assists, shooting 39.6% from the field and 31.8% from three. She was 5th in the nation in three pointers making 85 on the year. She was also 14th in the nation shooting 31.8% from three. Her team had a successful year with a record of 33-4 and finished 5th place in nationals.
What made you choose Purdue Northwest?
“Well honestly, my future coach (Jesse Ford) reached out to me almost immediately after he got hired at PNW. I was pumped when he did because not only did I always admire PNW, but it made me feel valued that he wants me to be apart of a rebuild. Which that is another thing, Coach Ford is looking to turn around the program and I am absolutely pumped to be apart of that! Beyond athletics, PNW is a beautiful campus and is known for having an outstanding nursing program, which was another key part to factoring in Northwest.”
Obviously joining a new team is different. What’s going to be the biggest challenge for you going from Morton College to Purdue Northwest University? “ I would say the transition from JUCO to D2, especially with the difference in intensity between the two conferences. The GLVC is one of the most competitive and tough conferences in the country and it will take a lot of hard work and discipline to make a name for PNW in it.”
And lastly, what are you looking forward to this season at Purdue Northwest? “I’m looking forward to just the essence of basketball season; I know Coach Ford will push us to be competitive and that’s what I love most about the game. Plus, it will be a breath of fresh air to know I have found my “home” for the next three years!”
