I talked to her about her commitment, Boo Camp, and what is PND’s goal for the upcoming season.
What made you choose SIUE?
“The minute I stepped on campus I felt like I could definitely see myself playing there. The coaching staff is so supportive and they were all very patient with me and my decisions. I went to an elite camp there last summer and I remember telling myself that I wanted SIUE to be amongst my top decisions when choosing a school to go to.”
Kaitlin was at Curley Boo Johnson Camp as a coach. I asked her what it’s like to teach the younger generation of Central Illinois basketball.
“Ultimately, the most important part of the game to me is to inspire younger girls to chase their dreams. Boo camp is always an amazing experience as a coach to see the game of basketball from a different perspective. It was always my favorite camp growing up because I got to be coached by the best players in the area that I looked up to.”
PND made school history winning the teams first state championship. I asked her what’s the team’s goal for this season?
“Obviously that was a huge deal to win the state title and it will remain in the back of our minds, but it’s now in the past and that won’t make us automatically better than anyone. We have to work even harder than we did last year because we are going to have a huge target on our backs. We just want to take things one day at a time and make sure that we are improving every day.”
Kaitlin Cassidy and the PND Lady Irish are ready to embrace the role of being defending 2A champions. Can they go back to ISU and repeat as state champions? see myself playing there.
