The secret is out! Mya Wardle announced she is transferring to Bradley University. In this article I talk about my thoughts on the announcement, and I talked to her about the move.

The name Wardle is a well known name at Bradley. With Bradley Men's Basketball coach Brian Wardle being very successful, Wardle has been a well known name for 10 years in Peoria. Mya Wardle received an offer by Bradley in her sophomore year of high school. She passed on that and committed to Eastern Kentucky. Mya averaged 1.8 points, 1.4 rebounds, and 1.1 assists her freshman season. After the season she announced that she was entering the transfer portal. By that moment everyone in Peoria knew. Mya Wardle was returning home.

Here is my interview with Mya.

There’s a lot of reasons people see you at Bradley. For you, what was the number one reason you chose to come to Bradley? “I think the biggest reason was I believed in coach Pop and her vision of the program and I wanted to be apart of the culture that she has built. I believe that Bradley has the ability to contend for championships and that’s my ultimate goal over these next few years is to win.”

You played your freshman season at Eastern Kentucky. What did you learn there at and how could some of the things the coaches and players told you help you now at Bradley? “I learned a lot my freshman year and I’m grateful I got to go and experience things at EKU. The first thing I learned was how the game is played a lot faster at the next level. The speed of play and how fast you have to adjust to things is a lot different then high school or aau. I also learned how to defend a lot better. I played behind 3 really good guards and they definitely challenged me and elevated my game. Lastly I think one of the best things I learned was how to respond to adversity and still be confident. I think being able to bounce back will help me in my career at Bradley.”

Your last name is well known at Bradley. Do you think there’s more pressure on you since everyone already knows you or does that give you less pressure to worry about? “I don’t view it as pressure anymore. I think that I’ve worked hard to establish my name and my own image and I think that I can hopefully keep making my own impact in Peoria.”

Mya Wardle is back in the 309, and ready to win.
