The PND Lady Irish are competing in state for the first time since 1994. I talked to senior guard Mya Wardle on how this team is ready and is prepared for state.
“It’s a pretty great feeling. We knew all of our hard work would pay off and we are planning on continuing this journey till Saturday!” PND has what it takes to win the state championship, it all comes down to executing.
PND is facing Regina Dominican. They have a record of 25-9. They have a very good defense only allowing 966 points this season. Mya Wardle talks about what the plan is against a defensive minded Regina Dominican team. “Well, we have some new actions we put in depending on what they throw at us. We gotta play composed and patient but honestly our defense will spark our offense. I think our shooters will be locked in as well, so I feel confident if we play our game we will be good.”
PND is at state for the first time since 1994 and are in their first state semifinal game in program history. This year they have had a historic season. Their 32 wins is the most in program history. They have faced a very difficult schedule with all four losses are against state ranked teams. They lost to the number one team in class 3A Lincoln. 4A Alton twice, and Lift for Life Academy who is a top 10 team out of Missouri. They also have some very impressive wins on their resume. They beat last years class 4A State champion O’Fallon in overtime 68-64. They beat Fremd 70-63 who are in the class 4A state semifinals.
PND is looking for their 1st state title in program history. With a win against Regina Dominicana tomorrow, PND would be in the state championship game that would be played on Saturday at 1pm.
