These two teams did not disappoint as it was an amazing game to watch. The Irish were came out firing on all cylinders and quickly went out to a 15-4 lead. After a timeout by Lincoln, they started to get a little momentum cutting the deficit down. By the end of the 1st quarter PND had a 19-12 lead.
Early in the 2nd quarter the Irish kept pouring it on. At the four minute mark the Irish had a 31-16 lead. Lincoln went on a big 12-3 run to make this game close. At halftime the score was 34-28 in favor of Notre Dame.
In the 3rd quarter, the Railsplitters kept chipping away as the PND lead started to fade away. Lincoln got it to a tie game at 43 a piece to end the 3rd quarter.
In the 4th quarter Lincoln continued to go on a run and had their first lead of the game. The final score ended up being 63-52 in favor of Lincoln who stay undefeated on the season. Lincoln's Kloe Froebe stuffed the stat sheet with a double double. Her line was 33 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists, and 8 steals.
For Peoria Notre Dame Lexi Baer had 14 points and 7 rebounds. Kaitlin Cassidy scored 14 points. Julia Mingus added 10 points for the Irish as well.
I talked to Peoria Notre Dame Junior Kaitlin Cassidy on the teams experience playing at the Renaissance Coliseum. "It was such an amazing experience that we were so lucky to have. Not many girls have been able to be in that position and I am extremely grateful for our coaches giving us a chance to play in a place like RENCO. We showed everyone in the area what we are capable of and I feel like we gained some respect after that game."
As the postseason is right around the corner Kaitlin talks about consistency. "We need to stay consistent and play all 4 quarters of every game. The main focus for us is to not go into long scoring droughts during games and we have to play inside out meaning start scoring in the paint before we launch threes."
Peoria Notre Dame falls 22-4 on the year and have 5 regular season games left including 4 conference games. A game that stands out is the game at Richwoods on February 1st.
Lincoln improves to 24-0 on the year and have 7 regular season games left. A couple of games that stand out is when they play against state ranked in class 4A 9th ranked O'Fallon on February 2nd. On February 3rd they play Alton who are ranked 2nd in class 4A.
Both teams are very good and look to go far in the postseason. It was a great game between these two teams and it was a great atmosphere.
