Richwoods is a team to follow, and has some big names, with even bigger expectations. I talked with Londyn Sommerville about preparing for the season.

What's the recruiting process been like for you this summer? “The recruiting process has been very exciting! I have enjoyed being able to connect with coaches and develop relationships.” “What I have learned through the process is time management and being organized.”

Londyn recently committed to Creighton University. I asked her about what led to the decision. “My experience with Creighton's staff /team was decided by their culture and tradition of consistent winning. My family and I had a great visit. The staff is passionate about development.”

Richwoods will be getting a lot of attention this season with the way the rooster looks and from the success last season. Londyn talks about staying focused with all the buzz around the team. “It’s definitely exciting that people are talking about us, but we can’t get caught up in that. We just have to focus on working hard every day, staying together as a team, and controlling what we can control. Our goal is to improve every day and if we do all of those things at a high level, we should be competing on the big stage at the end of the season.”

With Keniya Todd leaving Richwoods is there a different approach to the team or is it more of a next person up kind of mentality when it comes to losing a player like Keniya? “We’re definitely sad to see Keniya go. She’s a talented player, and we wish her nothing but the best. At the end of the day, every athlete has to make the decision they feel is best for their future, and we respect that. For us, our mindset doesn’t change. We still have the same goals, the same expectations, and the same commitment to getting better every day. We believe in the group we have, and our focus is on continuing to grow together and competing at the highest level. We’re excited for the season ahead.”

Londyn earned all-Big 12 first-team honors averaging 13.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 3.0 blocks per game in her junior season for the Richwoods Knights. The Creuighton commit is looking for a big senior season as the Knights look to make some more noise in Class 4A.
