Here is a rundown of what has happened so far this season. In this article, I will go over what we’ve seen so far, what I think about the teams, talk about records being broken, and more.
Washington Panthers
The Washington Panthers are the consensus number one in Central Illinois, and in the state of Illinois as they are ranked number one in class 3A. This junior loaded team has been something to watch. With McDougall, Guedet, Tibbs, and O’Brien this 8-0 Lady Panthers team are off to a hot start. They will be looking to win the Mid Illini conference just like they did two years ago.
Roanoke Benson This 1A school is off to a hot start with a record of 8-0. Bri Harms has been a great contributor for the Rockets and will continue to be a driving factor for the Lady Rockets success.
Dunlap’s young talent continue to improve and impress people. Freshmen Keyaira Haywood, Keniya Todd, and Amiyah Gulley have contributed early in their careers. Keyaira Haywood is ranked number 5 in the 2028 class. Keniya Todd already has an offer to Chicago State. Amiyah Gulley has led the team in scoring in a couple of games. Only time will tell how good this Dunlap team will be in the coming years.
Peoria Notre Dame has been challenged early this season. The defending 2A state Champions have played good teams. With a 5-2 record on the year this team isn’t a losing team. Last season they only lost 4 games. There two losses this year come to the number one team in 3A, the Washington Panthers, and a nationally ranked team from Missouri Incarnate Word Academy. As Emy Wardle is expected to come back from injury, this PND squad will look to get back into form with a stacked squad.
Record breakers
We’ve had three records broken with a team record and 2 individual records.
The Washington Panthers made 3 three pointers in a game earlier this season that broke a school record for most three pointers in a game.
Deer Creek-Mackinaw Junior Dalia Dejesus broke the scoring record at Dee Mack early into her junior year.
Canton’s Ella Demler broke the school record for most assists in school history at 384. She is approaching 400+ assists in her career.
Surprise teams
East Peoria is off to a great start to the season at 7-3. Last season the Lady Raiders only won 8 games. Senior guard Kylie Moeller has been a star at East Peoria and the East Peoria seniors are looking for their first Mid Illini Conference win in their career.
