High School Baseball Rundown March 29th, 2024

The Metamora Redbirds played in Tennessee yesterday and they continue to play this weekend.

The Redbirds were victorious over East Robertson yesterday with a final score of 4-3. Metamora scored in the first inning after Cooper Girdler drew a walk, scoring one run. In the fifth inning Metamora took the lead as Tyler Mason singled, scoring one run, and an error scored two runs. Girdler earned the win for Metamora as he gave up zero hits, one run (zero earned) over one and one-third innings. Gavin OLaughlin was the starter for Metamora. He gave up two hits, two runs (one earned), over three and two-thirds innings, striking out seven and walking three. Tyler Mason performed well for the Redbirds going 1-1 with one RBI. Metamora is now 3-2 on the year. 

Metamora played two games today in Tennessee with the first game against Hendersonville. Tyler Mason led off the game with a base hit. Girdler hit a single into right field and Tyler Mason was thrown out at home by the right fielder to end the top of the first. Clayton Cawley got the start for the Redbirds. Cawley gave up a lead off double but dealt no damage. Tyler Mason hit a single into left field that drove in two and got Metamora the lead. In the bottom of the 2nd inning, Cawley had some trouble on the mound as he walked three batters. Hendersonville scored two in the inning to tie the game up. Cawley had some trouble in the 3rd inning walking two batters and having the bases loaded with one out. He got out of the inning with a strikeout and a pick off. Metamora broke the tie in the 6th inning on an error on the pitcher that scored a run. The Redbirds got an insurance run as Grebner singled to left to drive in a run to make it 4-2. Hendersonville stormed right back and scored two runs in the 6th inning to tie the game at four apiece. Morris hit a walk-off single as Metamora lost a close one 5-4. Metamora is now 3-3 on the year. 

Pekin East Madison 

Pekin hosted East Madison, a team from Wisconsin. Brady Bolen was on the mound for the Dragons. He went 5 innings giving up one hit, zero runs, one walk, and eleven strikeouts. Pekin put together a strong second inning. The Dragons scored three on an RBI groundout, a wild pitch, and an error. In the bottom of the third inning, Brady Bolen helped himself on the mound with a home run to left field to extend the lead to 4-0. Kearden Bolen doubled and then scored on a passed ball to get a 5-0 lead. Jamison Knight laid down an excellent bunt for a single to bring in a run. Carter Bowling followed that up with a double to center field to put them up a touchdown. In the bottom of the 4th, Busby singled into left field to drive in Beach and made it an 8-0 lead. Brady Bolen singled into left field to drive in a run to make it 9-0. Pekin won on a walk off walk 10-0. The Bolen’s performed well in this game. Brady Bolen went 2-3 with a home run and two RBI’s. Carter Bolen went 3-3.
