High School Baseball Rundown April 24th, 2024
Dunlap Canton
It was a pitchers duel at Dunlap tonight. Canton started Freshman Kash VanHouten. Dunlap started Jaxson Tresenriter. Dunlap’s lone run of the game came in the 3rd inning as Newton grounded into a fielder's choice. In the 6th inning the third baseman Nava made an error that started the inning for Canton. Helfrich hits a 2 run single to take the lead. Canton won 2-1. This is Canton’s first win in conference play and Dunlap’s first loss in conference play. Kash VanHouten went 5 inning giving up one run and striking out ten. Jaxson Tresenriter pitched a complete game with zero earned runs and struck out eight.
Metamora Pekin
We had another pitchers duel in the Mid Illini conference tonight. Booth was the starting pitcher for Pekin. O’Laughlin was the starting pitcher for Metamora. Both pitchers went the distance in this one. Pekin made 6 errors in this game. O’Laughlin was one out away from a no hitter and Nolan Schaefer broke it up with a solo home run to left field. Metamora won 3-1.
Deer Creek-Mackinaw Heyworth
It was another pitching duel in Central Illinois as Heyworth scored one run in the first as the games only run. Holly went 6 innings giving up two hits, one unearned run, striking out six and got the loss. Klawitter pitched a complete game shutout allowing just three hits.
Illini Bluffs Midwest Central
Surprise! Another pitchers duel as Illini Bluffs won this game 1-0. Fargher pitched great for Illini Bluffs. He pitched 6 scoreless innings only allowing two hits striking out eleven.
East Peoria Washington
Both teams' offenses weren’t clicking so East Peoria took advantage in the 3rd with Hartwell stealing home to make it 1-0 East Peoria. Duncheon pitched for East Peoria. Lawrence pitched for Washington. Sosnowski was up with the bases loaded and one out in the 5th inning. East Peoria made a pitching change to Zaiser. He struck out Sosnowski then walked Duncheon to bring in a run and make it 2-0 East Peoria. The Raiders got another run in on a passed ball to make it 3-0. Duncheon pitched an incredible game. He threw a complete game shutout allowing just three hits, one walk, and struck out seven. East Peoria won 3-0.
Morton Limestone
Morton jumped out in front thanks to a five run second inning. Limestone had something cooking in the 4th inning with the bases loaded and nobody out. Kleist reached on an error to make it 6-1 Morton. Williams singled and drove in a run. At the end of the 4th it was 6-2 Morton. Morton threatened in the top of the 5th with the bases loaded and one out. Kruzick and Spangler struck out to leave the runners stranded. Reiman hit a sac fly into right field to extend the lead to 7-2. Spangler was great on the mound and at the plate. He went 2-3 driving in three runs. He struck out the first six batters to start the game. On the mound he went the distance going all seven innings allowing three hits, two runs, zero earned, zero walks, and striking out fourteen. Morton won 7-2.
