High School Baseball Rundown April 15th, 2024

18th State Dunlap 10th State East Peoria 

Both Teams are undefeated in conference play and they are ranked in the top 20 in the state. Jack Piper dazzled on the mound for the Eagles. He went 6 innings giving up 6 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk, and 3 strikeouts. Owen Shissler went 3-4. Davis Weeks went 2-5 driving in 2 runs. Dunlap won 8-0 and now are in first place in the Mid Illini. These two teams play again at Dunlap on Wednesday.


Metamora Canton 

Metamora showed up in a big way with the bats and a great performance by Cawley on the mound. Cawley threw a complete game giving up 2 hits, 2 runs (1 earned), 3 walks, and 10 strikeouts. Lueddecke went 2-5 with 3 RBI’s in the 10-2 win over Canton. 


19th 3A Morton Pekin

Morton held on in this one despite Pekin’s late noise. Morton was up 6-0 going into the bottom of the 7th. Pekin scored 4 runs which wasn’t enough and Morton won 6-4. Both starting pitchers produced a lot of strikeouts. Schaffnit struck out 7 on the mound for the Potters giving up 0 runs. Goss went 5 innings giving up 3 earned runs but struck out 13 batters. 


9th 3A Washington Limestone

Limestone won this game in what some would say an upset over the Washington Panthers. Limestone’s Caleb Bieneman had an amazing night on the mound. He went 6.2 innings giving up just 3 hits, 0 runs, 0 walks, and 13 strikeouts. Limestone won this game 3-0. Williams went 3-3 for the Rockets. Bieneman helped himself out going 2-3 with 2 RBI’s. 


6th 2A Normal University 7th State Glenwood

6th ranked in class 2A Normal University had a tough task against 7th ranked in state, Glenwood. Glenwood took control of this game thanks to an amazing performance on the mound by Appenzeller. The South Carolina commit went 6 innings allowing just 2 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk, and 9 strikeouts. Reincke went 2-4 with an RBI for Glenwood. Glenwood won 5-0. 


Richwoods PND

Peoria Notre Dame scored 4 in the first and 1 in the 2nd to help them win 5-4 over Richwoods. Lawson Alwan made an incredible play behind the plate. A ball was bunted and popped up behind the backstop and Alwan went all out and made the catch. Campbell and Kouri collected 2 hits for the Irish.
