The IVC Grey Ghosts are on a roll this season. I talked to Sophomore Rianna Foster on how the team has been so successful, and what it’s like at a different school.

IVC is off to a great season at 12-4. I asked Rianna what the team is looking forward towards conference play. What’s the team looking forward to as you head towards conference play? “We’re looking forward to seeing the work we’ve put in show in our game play and showing the rest of the conference that even though we might be a younger team we can compete with others and even win a conference title.”

Rianna Foster had a great freshman season at Peoria Heights where she helped the team win a regional title. Now she’s in a different setting at IVC trying to win another title. Here is what she said about the difference between this year and last year.

“At Peoria Heights we had strong senior leadership where I didn’t have much leadership responsibility and my main role was just defense and scoring. This years IVC team is a very young team where we all have to chip in on leadership responsibilities with us having 3 sophomores, a freshman, and a senior in the starting lineup. Overall, it’s been a pretty good experience, especially with having two familiar faces on the bench with last year’s PHHS head coach, Chris Reese, and my dad as assistant coaches. This is also my first time having a female head coach, which has been really nice as she can relate to things that male coaches can’t.”

IVC is in a tough class 2A sectional with teams like Canton, Dee Mack, and the defending state champions Peoria Notre Dame. I asked Rianna about what the challenge will be like in such a tough sectional.“I do think it will be a tough sectional, but I think we have the size and athletes to compete with a PND or Dee Mack. Our lack of experience and youth will have an effect, but I know our girls are ready to go to war and compete.”

The young but talented IVC Grey Ghosts are 12-5 on the season and look to keep improving as the postseason gets closer.
