Deer Creek Mackinaw's girls basketball team has been on fire this year. I got to talk to sophomore Dalia DeJesus on the team's success.

"I think with losing two starting seniors we really just had to push ourselves to still be great. Definitely getting to feel the impact we made last year has just made us hungry to have it again and hopefully do more. We don’t have a large program, but every single girl on our team knows what we expect from them and how to deliver." The team lost two graduates, Addison Swadinsky and Mckenna Carithers who were a key part of the chiefs team last year. Addison now plays at Illinois Central College.

Sophomore Dalia DeJesus recently scored her 1,000th career point. Here's what she had to say about accomplishing this achievement. "I like to use the achievements I reach by making it motivation to be better. 1k was great and it just makes me want to do more." With only being a sophomore and reaching 1,000 points, she will continue to get better every day.

This Dee Mack team is on fire but they aren't looking at the long run. Dalia says, "We really just want to take it one game at a time. Not to get in over our heads and really focus on the team we’re about to play and what we have to do to move on."

Deer Creek Mackinaw is 22-1 on the season and have a 21 game winning streak. The Chiefs look to continue their hot streak as the postseason is rapidly approaching.
