Creating a Girls Basketball Tournament

It’s Thanksgiving week and that means the Kevin Brown memorial tournament is in progress. This tournament is one of the largest tournaments for Thanksgiving week in America. This year they are adding a girls basketball game between Washington and Peoria Notre Dame. This will be the first ever girls basketball game in the Kevin Brown Memorial tournament. That got me thinking what if I created a girls basketball tournament for Thanksgiving? These are the teams that I would have competing

Washington Peoria Notre Dame

These two teams deserve to have a spot in this tournament because they are two of the best teams in Central Illinois. Peoria Notre Dame is coming off of winning the class to a state tournament and has one of the best lineups in the state of Illinois. Washington has been dominant in the Mid-Illini for a while now, and are considered one of the best teams in Central Illinois.

O'Fallon Loyola Academy

Let’s stay in the state of Illinois for this one and have O’Fallon and Loyola Academy play. Loyola Academy won the class for a state championship and went undefeated last season. The ramblers have one of the best guards in the nation in Aubrey Galvan. Loyola Academy is looking to stay undefeated for this year win another state championship. O'Fallon has been a very good 4A team for a couple years now and I would be intrigued to watch this game if they were to play.

Alton Incarnate Word Academy (MO)

Alton is considered a monster in class 4A. They won over 30 games last season and we’re dominant. Incarnate word on the other hand is a whole different monster. This team has won the most consecutive games in the state of Missouri than any team has ever done before and is looking for the nation’s record winning streak. you can’t talk about high school girls basketball without talking about this team when it comes to being the greats. Incarnate Word Academy has won seven straight state championships. I would love to see this game.

Nazareth Academy Pewaukee (WI)

Nazareth Academy has been a successful program winning state championships. Last year they went 32-4 and even went to Florida and played IMG Academy in a holiday tournament. This team loves tough competition. The Pewaukee Pirates have finished state runner ups in 2022 and 2023. Last year they won the Wisconsin state championship. This would be a very intriguing matchup.

Canton Deer Creek-Mackinaw

This would be a small school matchup with two great teams. Dee Mack won 30+ games last year and Canton won 20+ games last year. I would love to see them in a tournament atmosphere. As a matter of fact, these two teams are playing right now while I’m creating this article.

Dunlap Normal Community

These two teams will play each other this year but if I were to create a tournament these two teams would play each other as well. Both are promising teams that were successful last year and look to keep the success going this season.

This would be my what if tournament if the Tournament of champions expands on the girls side next year.
