Central Illinois Baseball Recap March 28th, 2024

Central Illinois had great weather for some baseball games. We had a no hitter and a run rule all in one day. Here’s all the recaps of the games. 

Canton Limestone

Coming off of yesterday's extra inning thriller, these two teams were at it again. Limestone wasted no time and got off to a 4-0 lead in the first inning. In the 2nd inning Limestone doubled their lead and led 8-0. Canton had an opportunity to chip into the deficit in the bottom of the 2nd inning. They had the bases loaded with 1 out with Munson at the plate. Munson drew a walk to score a run. Vanhouten grounded into a double play but was able to score a run to make it an 8-2 game. Limestone kept pouring it on and scored 3 in the 3rd inning to extend the lead to 11-2. 

Morton Tremont

Tremont had some help from the Illinois commit Williams. In the top of the 4th he hit a single to score Meeker to make it a 1-0 lead. Morton had a great 5th inning thanks to an RBI single by Lovell. Kruzick played small ball and reached on a bunt single to score Brooks and take a 2-1 lead in the 5th. Tremont was able to tie the game as Booth scored on a wild pitch. IVC got into some trouble in the bottom of the 6th inning. The starting pitcher Meeker walked the first batter. Then Davis bunted and reached on an error. Then Spangler walked to make the bases loaded with nobody out. The Potters were able to capitalize, scoring 4 runs to win the game 6-2. Suttles got the win for the Potters, throwing a complete game. He allowed 5 hits, 2 runs, 0 walks, and 5 strikeouts. Pippin went 2-4 with 2 RBI’s. The Morton Potters are now 3-1 on the season. 

IVC Pontiac

IVC opened up the game scoring 2 runs in the first inning. Coventry hit a sac fly and Landsverk hit an RBI single. In the top of the 2nd, the Grey Ghosts kept the  offense going. Yates hit an RBI double followed by a 2 run homer by Marchand to make it 5-0. In the top of the 4th inning with the bases loaded, Perez singled into left field to clear the bases and make it 8-0. IVC wins on a run rule as they win 11-1. Marchand had a great day overall. On the mound he got the win going 4 scoreless innings. At the plate he went 2-2 with 3 RBI’s including a home run. IVC improves their record to 6-2 on the season. 

PCS Knoxville

PCS took over this game against Knoxville. Jacob Gerig had a phenomenal day on the mound for the Chargers. Knoxville had a lot of defensive miscues with 11 errors,  to help the Chargers win 13-0. Gavin Walder went 3-3 with 2 RBI’s. 

Brimfield Illini Bluffs

Drew Kieser threw a no-hitter for Brimfield. He walked 3 and struck out 8. Illini Bluffs threw Josh Vaughn on the mound. He went 6 innings giving up 4 hits, 1 earned run, 0 walks, and 10 strikeouts.
