It's only August so basketball season is still a little bit away. No matter how far we are from the season, there's always time for some rankings and predictions. Here are my top 10 teams going into the year.
Peoria Notre Dame
The PND Lady Irish is my number one team in the rankings and i'll tell you why. PND is coming off of there first state championship in school history. With star returners like Lexi Baer, Kaitlin Cassidy, Emy Wardle, and Julia Mingus. The Lady Irish are in a good spot for another terrific season. The Irish lost their star point guard Mya Wardle as she graduated but her sister Emy is looking like one of the best sophomores in the state and is on the rise as a national recruit. With a team stacked and ready to go, the Lady Irish can make another run to state.
2. Morton
The Morton Potters are number two in the rankings as they return some superstars. After winning the Mid Illini conference and ending the season with a record of 26-6. Paige Selke is a player to keep an eye on. Coach Becker's Potters are always good. They will be a team looking to repeat as conference champions.
3. Washington
The Washington Panthers are number three on the list. From Tibbs, McDougall, Guedet, and O'Brien, these Washington Panthers return with a fierce starting lineup. They finished in 2nd place in conference play and had a great season with a record of 23-7. This year they look to win the Mid Illini conference after falling one game short of Morton.
4. Dee Mack
Deer Creek Mackinaw has one of the best forwards/guards in the state. Dalia DeJesus and Dee Mack will have a tough time improving from last year after breaking records. They went undefeated in conference play as they were the Heart Of Illinois conference champions. They went 32-3 on the year with 32 wins being a school record. With DeJesus, Knowles, and Schmidgall, this team will be looking for more success.
5. Dunlap
The Dunlap Eagles will be an exciting team to watch for years to come. They have talented freshmen with Keniya Todd and Keyaira Haywood. They have Caroline Holmes and Kelis Morris along with Campbell Vrabel. The Eagles could have a very good year and might just surprise a lot of teams.
6. Canton
The Canton Little Giants were a great team going 25-9 last year. With Allison Wheeler leading the team last year with 12.4 points per game, and Ella Demler shooting 47% from the field. Both of these two return for there senior year. They will look to have a great year.
7. Richwoods
The Richwoods Knights lost there starting point guard but look for star forward Londyn Sommerville to have a breakout season. Londyn is ranked 4th in Illinois and the number one power forward in the class of 2027 in Illinois.
8. Metamora
The Metamora Redbirds didn't have that great of a season last year. Injuries really held them back but this year a healthy redbird team will have a good season. Led by Alivia Vaughan and Kessa Sell, these Redbirds can have a good year.
