For the second year in a row the Washington Panthers are playing in the tournament of champions. This year they play a talented Waukee Northwest team from Iowa. They went to state last year and have some incredible talent. Romey Croatt is a top 10 sophomore in the state and already has a lot of college offers. Logan Vogt is a sophomore already committed to Iowa State for volleyball. They also have a top 5 freshman in the state of Iowa Sadie McCann who will have tons of offers in the future. I talked to Washington Senior Avery Tibbs about the big game against Waukee Northwest.

You’re playing against a very talented team from Iowa. How does the team feel going into such a big game? “We feel very good going into the game! We have had 2 good wins to start the season and are fixing some small things but overall we are all super excited and ready!”

This is your second year in the TOC playing in it. How fun is it to be in an event like this? “It is so fun! We are all super excited for the atmosphere and for the community to come out and hopefully support us!”

Lastly, what are you focusing on this year to get you back in the state tournament? “We are focusing on playing together and trying to have fun because this is our last time together! I have been playing with these girls since third grade so it is pretty surreal this is the last year with them.”

Washington is looking for another run at state. You can catch the Washington Panthers play in the Tournament of Champions tonight at 5:45.
